Providing hope by connecting families with high-quality counseling in the Greater Atlanta area.
Everyone deserves quality therapy.
Path to Hope is a charitable therapy and mental health counseling project launched by two passionate Atlanta-based clinical therapists-Heather Cobb and Sanona Williams. They have both practiced in the greater Atlanta area for decades and post-COVID, they have witnessed an explosion in requests for help with complex trauma and relational crises in the community.
Sadly, few clients can afford the kind of intensive, longer-term therapy needed to address complex trauma and its impacts. Path to Hope was inspired by their desire to close this gap for communities in the greater Atlanta area overburdened by trauma and lacking access to affordable, expert care.
The Problem
-
Few Providers, High Cost of Care
At this time, clinicians with advanced levels of training in trauma and couples counseling are in high demand and, as a result, affordability is a massive challenge, with trauma specialists charging as much as $250/hour in this market.
-
Waiting Lists and High Caseloads
Per Heather and Sanona’s direct experience, lower-cost providers are overwhelmed with waiting lists and unsustainable caseloads. They are often new graduates with limited training, there’s high-turnover, and programs may have restrictive eligibility criteria that foreclose funding to many in need.
-
Short-Term, Stop-Gap Therapy
Most significantly, when therapy vouchers are provided, they are often short-term -- typically covering 2-4 visits, and up to 10 visits in the most generous circumstances. These are focused on safety and stability, not long-term mental health or trauma resolution. While vital, these arrangements provide some short-term relief, but no “path to hope.”
Our Vision
Funding for High-Quality Counseling
Path to Hope seeks to raise charitable funding for therapy vouchers that under-served clients with a limited ability to pay can use to obtain high-quality counseling.
At a service level, Path to Hope will aggregate charitable funding to provide "therapy vouchers" for discounted, high-quality therapy and counseling to underserved families in the Greater Atlanta metro.
Our annual goal is to connect 500 families in need with high-quality counseling in the Greater Atlanta area.
Serving Marginalized Communities
We are intentional about serving those who have historically lacked access to quality counseling, including recent immigrants, Black, Latino and other communities burdened by unaddressed trauma.
"There is an epidemic of undiagnosed trauma in our community with significant obstacles to quality care."
— Heather Cobb
Want to Help? We are seeking the following:
Serve on the Board
We're seeking motivated, committed Board members for our initial board of directors. We need folks who are willing to serve and bring their gifts for an initial period of 12-18 months. We plan to meet monthly to spin up our operating model and build a network of donors, volunteers, and providers interested in supporting this effort.
Referring Network
Once we have initial funding, we will seek to build out referring organizations that can informally screen and direct potentially eligible clients to us for a voucher and to a local therapist committed to helping Path to Hope clients.
